Abstract
Objectives: Traditional medical record has many limitations, therefore we have introduced problem oriented electronic medical record(EMR). For proving its effect, we compared the quality of medical record before and after the introduction
of
EMR.

Methods: We made the evaluation criteria through review of psychiatric textbooks. Inner-rater reliability was checked prior to main study. Admission notes and progress notes of psychiatric patients in Asan Medical Center were rated by 11
items
from admission notes and 6 items from progress notes by the 4-degree rating system. We compared two types of medical record and checked the frequency of poor record.

Results: Most items from admission notes and progress notes showed high inter-rater reliability. EMR showed statistically significant superior result in all items from admission notes and most items from progress notes. And it also showed
decrease in the frequency of poor record in most items.

Conclusion: Reliable evaluation about the quality of psychiatric record can be achieved through appropriate quantitative criteria. EMR is superior to traditional medical record in quality.
